Daniel Wu to join forces with Alicia Vikander for Tomb Raider reboot

Based on my luke-warm feelings towards the previous two TOMB RAIDER films, I never would have suspected that I'd be eagerly awaiting its upcoming reboot, but the cast of the Roar Uthaug directed flick is shaping up to be something very special. Production on TOMB RAIDER will kick off later this month in South Africa, and Variety reports that Daniel Wu will be joining Alicia Vikander for Lara Croft's newest adventure.

The outlet reports that Daniel Wu will play Lu Ren, a ship captain who partners with Croft on a quest to find her father. Wu currently stars on Into the Badlands as Sunny, the Head Clipper to the world's most powerful Baron. The AMC series tells the story of a great warrior and a young boy who embark on a journey across a dangerous land controlled by feudal barons to find enlightenment. The second season of Into the Badlands is due to premiere later this year. As for TOMB RAIDER, Wu will be joining Alicia Vikander and Walton Goggins, who will be playing a "very complicated" villain who won't exactly be what we're expecting. Vikander has said that the upcoming movie will tell a story about “a young and untested Croft fighting to survive her first adventure.” I've got my fingers crossed for this one.

TOMB RAIDER is set for a March 16, 2018 release.
