Danny Trejo gives an update on the Machete sequel

It may not have been a box office smash, but the modest budget of MACHETE compared to its haul (and impending home video release) was probably enough to justify a sequel.

Craggy leading man Danny Trejo is all set to sharpen his blades for another one, and is now waiting for filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. As Trejo tells B-D, “I asked him when he was going to write it and he says it’s written, so we can get started pretty quick.

Indeed, Rodriguez was thinking about franchise possibilities with his grindhouse trailer-turned-feature, as he had this to say back before MACHETE even hit theaters: “Some people who didn’t die in the film actually did die, I just cut out their deaths. I wanted to save them for a sequel, but you actually see that they did perish. Where the movie will go next? I have a bunch of ideas for it. It’s all in the end titles. We have to make them, of course, MACHETE KILLS and MACHETE KILLS AGAIN. Once you put it out there, just like we did with the trailer, you have to make it.

Now according to Trejo, RR already has MACHETE KILLS on paper… so it’s just up to him finding the time, money and an appropriately diverse group of famous actors to appear and/or be gruesomely killed.
