…THE WOLVERINE.
Simple and cool. Amazing what a ‘the’ can do!
Thanks to HitFix for uncovering the title tidbit. The information was revealed in a recent interview conducted between the site and director Darren Aronofsky for the filmmaker’s upcoming BLACK SWAN. There had never been word before on what the follow-up to last year’s X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE would be called, but now we know officially.
It’s also become official that THE WOLVERINE will not be a sequel to Gavin Hood’s ORIGINS film, with Aronofsky calling it a “one-off”. As we’ve known, the story – from a script by Christopher McQuarrie (THE TOURIST) – will follow the Chris Claremont/Frank Miller 1980s mini-series which finds Logan venturing off to Japan.
Now, the more distance this film has from Hood’s much-derided entry, the better I say. However, this could also be seen as Aronofsky marking a clear distinction between his work and that of the other films in the X-MEN franchise (much like Matthew Vaughn’s X-MEN: FIRST CLASS has), which may prove interesting for the character after all is said and done.
THE WOLVERINE is expected to begin production in New York this March.
