Star Wars fans can be heard celebrating all over the world because The Force is strong with Dave Filoni and his new official position at Lucasfilm. Well, to be honest, his title isn't exactly new but Lucasfilm didn't update its website with Filoni's new position until this week and fans are ecstatic over the news.

Last Summer, Lucasfilm, in a very hush-hush fashion, promoted Filoni, who is the executive producer and frequent writer and director of The Mandalorian, to executive director for the entire studio. The news was confirmed to "Variety" but the company made Filoni's title official this week by giving it the seal of approval on their website. The news began to spread like crazy on Twitter and here is just a glimpse at some of the fan excitement on the social media platform:

More of this can be found all over Twitter and their excitement honestly comes as no surprise. Filoni has been a true creative fixture at Lucasfilm ever since George Lucas chose him in 2005 to oversee the animated series, The Clone Wars. That show launched in 2008 and ran for seven seasons while giving the brand true critical viability with fans.

After Lucas sold the company to Disney, Filoni stepped in and created two more animated series that were well-received: Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Resistance. It became clear that Lucas was such an important mentor to Filoni that the latter became the apparent heir to Star Wars mythology because he truly knows how the universe works and he has made VERY few missteps if any. Given that pedigree, Jon Favreau tapped him to executive produce The Mandalorian, which was Lucasfilm's first live-action TV series, and that has gone on to be a huge hit with critics and fans on the Disney+ streaming platform.

Filoni will continue to spread his creative wings at Lucasfilm. Back in December, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced that Filoni and Favreau would be executive producing several Mandalorian spinoffs for Disney+, including The Book of Boba Fett, which is currently shooting as it eyes a premiere in December of this year. Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson, and based on the character Filoni created in The Clone Wars, is also in the works, along with Rangers of the New Republic, which was announced but is not currently in active development.

What are YOUR thoughts on Dave Filoni's new position? Should this internal decision have gone public months ago?
