David Fincher and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Another week, another new David Fincher project!

The prolific attacher but leisurely director was recently associated with PAWN SACRIFICE, a movie featuring Tobey Maguire as chess wizard Bobby Fischer, but the filmmaker was apparently just consulting on the project.

Now comes word that he’s following his Facebook movie THE SOCIAL NETWORK with a US remake of the superb Swedish thriller THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.

Fincher, who is also linked to direct or produce at least a dozen other projects (including HEAVY METAL, THE GOON and an HBO series), has been rumored for a US adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s bestseller for a while but it’s now f’reals.

The synopsis: One fateful day several years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses and no evidence. Nearly forty years later, investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist reluctantly accepts the unusual and seemingly unsolvable assignment of finding out what really happened to Harriet. Genius hacker, Lisbeth Salander The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is drawn into the case and the two form a fragile alliance as they dig into the sinister past of the Vangers and find out just how far theyre prepared to go to protect themselves and each other.
