David O. Russell decides to make the Uncharted movie after all

JoBloJoBlo

Who can keep up with filmmaker David O. Russell? Earlier in the year he was linked to an adaptation of the hit PS3 videogame UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE, but departed when he couldn’t come to terms with Sony. Recently he left another project he was developing, the adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES with Natalie Portman, supposedly to pursue his own film OLD ST. LOUIS. And now he’s back on UNCHARTED.

Russell, whose Beantown boxing drama THE FIGHTER opens in December, has officially signed on to write and direct the big-screen action-adventure tale, based on developer Naughty Dog’s acclaimed UNCHARTED games.

The first game’s story revolves around Fillion-esque fortune hunter Nathan Drake, who (along with spunky reporter Elena) follows the clues of his distant relative Sir Francis Drake on a quest for El Dorado, the legendary city of gold. Along the way, he and his comrades travel lush environments and encounter pirates, mercenaries, ancient relics and strange creatures.
