DC Comics Constantine series gets the greenlight over at NBC

Alright, so we knew that CONSTANTINE was picked up by NBC, at least the script was. Fortunately for David S. Goyer and Daniel Cereone (THE MENTALIST) the show has now been greenlit and will officially make its way to the small screen.

When NBC initially nabbed the script it was acquired with penalty meaning that if the network didn’t produce or get the show on the air then they would have to pay the producer/writer a fee of six or seven figures. Networks can also use it to their own advantage in order to ensure that they keep the desired series. Either way, this thing was bound to happen.

The series written by Goyer and Cereone will center on John Constantine aka Hellblazer, “an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending us against dark forces from beyond.” Does this mean that they will get someone into the role pretty quick now? I’m still voting for Paul Bettany or Ryan Kwanten.

NBC is an odd match up for a comic series like this one. I figured that a network that could allow for more freedoms with the character would be a better fit. Constantine isn’t exactly AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. which works with well with a mainstream network like ABC. So far that’s probably my biggest reservation about the series so far.

Do you guys think that NBC and CONSTANTINE are a good fit? Who should they get for the lead role?
