DC’s Birds of Prey to take flight in theaters in February of 2020

As DC continues to re-position their struggling cinematic universe, it's been announced that Warner Bros. untitled BIRDS OF PREY film is now set for a February 7, 2020 release. The film stars Academy Award-nominated actress Margot Robbie reprising her SUICIDE SQUAD role as Harley Quinn, with DEAD PIGS helmer Cathy Yan occupying the director's chair for the studio's first all-female ensemble superhero adventure.

Poised to appear in the film alonside Daddy's Little Monster are the characters Black Canary and Huntress. For the moment, DC is hard at work while auditioning actresses for the upcoming action adventure's leading ladies, with A WRINKLE IN TIME's Gugu Mbatha-Raw, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS alumna Jurnee Smolett-Bell, and HIDDEN FIGURES superstar Janelle Monae among those vying for the part of DC's Siren of Scream, Black Canary. As for the part of Huntress, it's been said that THE NICE GUYS actress Margaret Qualley is in consideration, as well as SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD star Mary Elizabeth Winstead and THE WOLF OF WALL STREET's Cristin Milioti.

No plot details related to the project have been shared at this time, though it's to be thought that the film will center on the three leading ladies forming their own super group with the interest of streets of Gotham safe from ne'er do wells.

Next up for DC is James Wan's much-anticipated AQUAMAN starring Jason Momoa as the film's sea-worthy superhero, which is set to swim into theaters on December 21st. WONDER WOMAN 1984 starring Gal Gadot will follow on November 1, 2019, with Todd Phillips' standalone JOKER pic locked for an October 4, 2019 release.
