Dead by Daylight movie coming from Atomic Monster and Blumhouse

James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions are set to bring us a movie based on the video game Dead by Daylight

James Wan’s company Atomic Monster is merging with Jason Blum’s company Blumhouse, and it has just been announced that one of the next movies we’ll see from the M3GAN collaborators (who are now working on M3GAN 2.0, coming in 2025) is a feature film adaptation of Behaviour Interactive’s global multiplayer horror video game Dead by Daylight!

Behaviour Interactive’s Stephen Mulrooney had this to say about the movie deal: “We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the Dead by Daylight universe. At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are the ideal partners to craft Dead by Daylight’s killer entrance onto the big screen.

Wan added: “In Dead by Daylight the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains — perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation. We’re big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.

Blum provided the following statement: “We know there are so many fans of Dead by Daylight out there and think it’s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen. We know our partners at Behaviour and Atomic Monster will help us bring the best version of this game to life.

The search is now on for a director and a screenwriter.

Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught, tortured and killed. Survivors play in third-person and have the advantage of better situational awareness. Since its launch in 2016, Dead by Daylight has reached over 50 million players worldwide, with two million players stepping into The Fog every day. The game features a vast universe where classic horror survives and thrives. Having welcomed iconic characters from TV, film, and gaming, it’s only fitting that the franchise expands to new horizons to tell its story.

James Wan, Jason Blum, and Stephen Mulrooney are producing the Dead by Daylight film. Behaviour Interactive’s Remi Racine, Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Judson Scott, Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek, and Striker Entertainment’s Russell Binder serve as executive producers.
