Death Stranding movie: Hammerstone Studios and Kojima Productions to adapt the unique game to film

Build a bridge to my heart because Hideo Kojima is finally getting his wish! After collecting celebrities like trading cards, Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding mastermind, Hideo Kojima, is adapting his star-studded science-fiction action video game for screens. The project hails from Kojima Productions and Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios. The plot resides in a Bridges shipping container for now. Still, we’ve heard Kojima is fast-tracking the project, making it a priority alongside development on Death Stranding 2, a sequel to the 2019 original video game. Kojima and Lebovici will produce alongside Allan Ungar with Hammerstone financing.

Kojima said about making his dream come true, “I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing Death Stranding to the big screen.”

“We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation,” said Lebovici. “Unlike other big-budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic Hideo Kojima production.”

Per today’s official press release for Kojima’s Death Stranding movie project:

The Death Stranding franchise has connected with over 10 million ‘porters’ worldwide since its original launch on PlayStation 4 in 2019. Featuring an all-star cast including Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley, Death Stranding challenges players to reconnect a fractured society after the cataclysmic ‘Death Stranding’ event. This has opened a doorway between the living and the dead, leading to creatures from the afterlife roaming the fallen world marred by a desolate society. Carrying the disconnected remnants of humanity’s future in his hands, players embody “Sam Bridges” as he embarks on a mission to deliver hope to humanity by connecting the last survivors of a decimated America.

News about Kojima’s Death Stranding movie arrives after the announcement of Death Stranding 2 (Working Title) at The Game Awards. Kojima is the sequel’s producer, writer, director, and designer. Kojima is teaming up with video game enthusiasts on his first film project, including Lebovici, who produced the Uncharted fan film by Allan Ungar starring Nathan Fillion.

Are you excited about Hideo Kojima developing a Death Stranding movie? Will Reedus, Mikkelsen, and other members of the game’s cast join the film? We’ll let you know as soon as we hear more about this intriguing project.
