FENCES marks Denzel Washington's third feature-film as a director, following THE GREAT DEBATERS and ANTWONE FISHER. The story here follows an African American father struggling with race relations in the United States while trying to raise his family in the 1950s and come to terms with the events of his life. Heavy stuff, although there's no better actor to pull it off than Denzel! You can check out some pictures of the film with his co-star, Viola Davis, below.

I'm not familiar with the Broadway play on which this film is based, but back in 1987 it won Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actor (James Earl Jones), and Best Featured Actress (Mary Alice). A lot of people have now been introduced to Viola Davis, thanks to her excellent portrayal of Amanda Waller in SUICIDE SQUAD. With this film poised to hit on Christmas Day, I'm sure it'll find an audience in people who are looking for some solid, dramatic fare.

FENCES will open in theaters on December 25, 2016.
