If MTV News is to be believed (and ever since Tabitha Soren left, I’ve distrusted MTV News), Johnny Depp could be playing Freddie Mercury in an upcoming Queen biopic produced by Robert De Niro. Of course, I could be playing Freddie Mercury, but I’m pretty sure I’m not. They don’t seem to have any facts to back up their claim (that Depp is in “early talks”) and the only quotes they have are from the drummer of a Queen tribute band (!?!). I’m not sure I would trust quotes from the actual drummer of Queen let alone some guy from Milwaukee who just got off the day shift at Sam Goody. Depp’s got a pretty busy plate what with SWEENEY TODD and SHANTARAM and a Queen biopic probably wouldn’t get off the ground until late next year. At that point, Depp would already as old as Mercury was when he died. If you’re curious, you can read the MTV report yourself and choose to take out of it what you will. Depp, in case you hadn’t heard, can be seen this summer in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END.
