A surprise teaser for Digger in front of Top Gun anniversary screenings prompts Sandra Hüller to hype up the film

While enjoying this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Fatherland and The Zone of Interest actress Sandra Hüller is taking it upon herself to get audiences excited about her upcoming, mysterious movie, Digger, starring Tom Cruise. A new teaser for the Alejandro G. Iñárritu-directed dark comedy is playing ahead of anniversary screenings of Tony Scott’s Top Gun (currently in select theaters). Still, it’s Hüller’s energy for the film that’s giving us great vibes at Cannes.

Hüller on her excitement for Digger

“I am nearly bursting wanting to talk about this movie,” Hüller told THR‘s Scott Feinberg. “I can’t. I legally can’t. I can say that I saw a version [of it] that’s maybe not the final version, and that it impresses me beyond anything I’ve ever seen. And that’s all I can say. I think it’s going to be a remarkable film.”

In addition to Cruise, Digger also stars Sandra Hüller (Project Hail Mary), Jesse Plemons (Bugonia), John Goodman (The Connors), Riz Ahmed (The Phoenician Scheme), Michael Stuhlbarg (After the Hunt), Sophie Wilde (Babygirl), Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon), Robert John Burke (Robocop 3), Burn Gorman (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), and Pip Torrens (Preacher).

Jesse Plemons teases Digger

Jesse Plemons has previously teased that the film is something of a modern-day Dr. Strangelove, which jives with what our Editor-in-Chief, Chris Bumbray, saw at this year’s CinemaCon. “It’s one of the strangest, funniest, most tragic scripts I’ve read,” Plemons said. “There’s a kind of modern-day Dr. Strangelove thing, and then it becomes something else entirely. Getting to see Tom just go for it — not in a death-defying action way but fully showing what an incredible actor he is — that was thrilling.”

What’s in the Digger teaser?

After Bumbray viewed the Digger teaser trailer, he described it to us by saying, “Digger is one of the most powerful and richest men on the planet, but due to a huge environmental mistake, he’s brought the world to the brink of war and disaster. The president (John Goodman) demands that he fix the problem. Thus, Digger must travel around the world in order to negotiate peace or at least survival. There are some Les Grossman vibes, but Digger is Texan with slightly more hair and sounds like Ross Perot. The film looks incredible on 70mm VistaVision and could very well be a serious Oscar contender.”
