Matt Dillon is looking to star as Leonard Chess, the founder of the South Side Chicago blues label Chess Records, in an upcoming, currently untitled biopic. Under director Darnell Martin (THEIR EYES WERE WATCHING GOD) from his own script, the film will follow Chess’ life from his humble beginnings endlessly scouring the South for blues talent and selling records from his car to ultimately establishing Chess Records and launching the careers of music greats like Muddy Waters, Etta James and Chuck Berry. If his life even mildly paralleled that of the musicians he represented, it’s sure to make for some great, coke-snorting, orgy-having, Oscar worthy cinema. Dillon can next be seen in the comedy OLD DOGS and Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming drama TETRO.
