The Nun Corin Hardy

The trailer for THE NUN, the latest (and supposedly darkest) entry in New Line Cinema's Conjuring Universe, was released online a couple days ago, and the folks over at IGN managed to catch up with director Corin Hardy so he could watch the trailer with them and provide some commentary on it, discussing his approach to the material, the films he drew inspiration from, and the casting. For example, what was the thought process behind the casting of Taissa Farmiga, sister of THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2's Vera Farmiga, in this prequel / spin-off? Hardy covers that.

Set in 1952, THE NUN begins when

a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, with a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret and confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun from “The Conjuring 2.”

James Wan, director of both CONJURING films, crafted the story with Gary Dauberman, writer of the other spin-offs ANNABELLE and ANNABELLE: CREATION.

Taissa Farmiga's co-stars include Demian Bichir, Bonnie Aarons, Jonas Bloquet, Charlotte Hope, and Ingrid Bisu.

Hardy had some interesting and promising things to say, so check out his commentary video below, followed by the trailer itself.

THE NUN is set to reach theatres on September 7th.
