District 9 co-writer Terri Tatchell’s next script about strange stone beings

One of the cooler developments in the Academy Award race – hell, maybe the only cool development – was the success of DISTRICT 9, which received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. While Neill Blomkamp get almost all the credit for DISTRICT 9‘s success, he shares the screenwriting credit with his wife, Terri Tatchell, who spoke to io9 about what comes next for her. (Surprisingly, it’s not a collaboration with her hubby.)

“The film I’m working on now is an adaptation of a short film called Terminus. It’s a bit more science fiction, fantasy. It’s about a stone creature that follows this stressed-out guy around, just stressing him more and more. It was incredibly well received, and the director that created it, [Trevor Cawood] hasn’t done a feature yet, and he’s really talented. I approached him about writing a feature script of that. It’s been a little more challenging than I expected it to be. I’m probably on my second draft now. I’m not ready to send it off yet, but we’ll see.”

Check out TERMINUS below. It’s no surprise that Tatchell would have interest in it, as it reminds me of the ingenuity of Blomkamps’s “Alive in Joburg” short.

For the entire interview with Tatchell (who is actually pretty cute! Cute sci-fi chick alert!) – including some talk about the failed HALO movie – head on over HERE.
