Neill Bolmkamp’s DISTRICT 9 has seemingly done a lot for its star Sharlto Copley (right), a dude who literally had one short-screen credit to his name prior to making one of last year’s stand out films. Subsequently, Copley landed the high profile gig of Murdock in the new A-TEAM flick, which comes out in June. Now it’s being reported (via Heat Vision) that Copley is in line to return to the world of science fiction with a role in I AM NUMBER FOUR, a flick to be directed by D.J. Caruso (DISTURBIA).
Copley will join BEASTLY lead Alex Pettyfer, who we reported joined the cast about two weeks ago. Pettyfer will play Four, the titular lead and one of nine aliens who escape their home planet before its annihilation by a rival species and hide out on Earth disguised as human high school students. Copley is playing a man who hailed from the alien world’s serving class but now is the title character’s adult guardian and mentor.
Sweet. I know Copley hasn’t done much yet, but seeing his natural onscreen comfort in DISTRICT 9 leads me to believe he’ll do a good job of grounding the more unrealistic elements this story showcases. What do ya think?
I AM NUMBER FOUR is adapted from the James Frey and Jobie Hughes series of young-adult novels, done so by “Smallville” creators Al Gough and Miles Millar.
