Doctor Who Season 11 trailer promises new faces, new worlds, and new times

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After 54 years of being on the air, the eleventh season of DOCTOR WHO looks to be changing much more than the identity of BBC One's legendary time-traveling Doctor. As a part of this year's San Diego Comic Con celebration, a new and exciting trailer for the upcoming adventures of DOCTOR WHO finds BROADCHURCH and ATTACK THE BLOCK alum Jodie Whittaker quite startled, presumably after waking from the Time Lord's latest regeneration process. As the trailer plays on, Whittaker remarks that, like many Whovians experiencing a female Doctor for the very first time, “All of this is new to me.” She then adds, “New faces, new worlds. New times. So if I asked really, really nicely, would you be my new best friends?” My answer? Ab-so-friggin'-lutely! We're huge DOCTOR WHO fans in my house, and simply cannot wait to see what Whittaker and new DOCTOR WHO showrunner Chris Chibnall have planned for the show's upcoming return.

Speaking of friends, when DOCTOR WHO makes its way back to BBC One, Whittaker's Doctor will be joined by her new companions: Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, and Bradley Walsh as Yasmin, Ryan, and Graham. Sharon D. Stone is also set to appear in an unspecified recurring role.

Here's what I'd like to know: After watching this trailer, where are the Daleks? What's become of the Weeping Angels? What will Riversong think of the Doctor's new identity? Personally, I think this is going to be the most exciting season of DOCTOR WHO in quite some time, even if we're only getting a total of 10 episodes. It's no matter, though. Each of those episodes will be longer than 50 minutes, which is more than what we've been treated to in seasons past.

DOCTOR WHO Season 11 will debut on BBC One this fall.
