That AMERICAN PSYCHO musical we’ve been reporting on for a while – since 2008, in fact – has finally found its Patrick Bateman. And he’s a Brit! (Not so strange, considering Christian Bale is too.)

Matt Smith, who played Doctor Who from 2010-2013, has been handed the lead role in “American Psycho: The Musical”. The show will run at London’s Almeida Theatre from 3 December to 25 January 2014.

Based upon Bret Easton Ellis’ novel, the tale of a homicidal yuppie in 1980s Manhattan was adapted by Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (the Carrie remake). Rupert Goold will direct.

Smith will soon be seen playing the villain in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut, HOW TO CATCH A MONSTER, co-starring Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan and Eva Mendes.
