“The Wire” and 300 star Dominic West (seen right) has just signed up to portray a real-life serial killer named Fred West, in a new two-part TV docudrama called APPROPRIATE ADULT. The film will air on Britain’s ITV network.

According to The Guardian, The drama will tell the story of how Fred and Rosemary West were brought to justice, focusing on the period between Fred West’s arrest and his suicide on New Year’s Day 1995. Neil McKay (MO, MAD MONEY) is writing the script, Lisa Gilchrist is producing.

Emily Watson (BREAKING THE WAVES, PUNCH DRUNK LOVE, below) will also star, playing Janet Leach, an observer who was present when West was questioned by police. Leach’s role as the “appropriate adult” assigned to sit in on interviews also gives the drama its title.

Monica Dolan (NEVER LET ME GO) will play Rosemary West.

Fred West confided in Leach after his arrest in 1994 when she was chosen to sit in on his interview sessions, a right extended to vulnerable adults who face criminal charges.

He was awaiting trial after being charged with 12 murders when he was found hanged in his prison cell. His wife was jailed for life after being found guilty of 10 murders in November 1995 and is still in jail.

Always interesting to see a real life horror story put to screen, be it big or small. With good actors on-board and a network that’s proven itself, APPROPRIATE ADULT could very well be worth a watch.

We’ll keep you posted!
