Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Isabela Moner, box office

Hola, soy Esteban! It would seem that DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD is starting its theatrical adventure off on the right foot with 1.25 million earned from its Thursday night preview screenings. The live-action film that brings Nickelodeon’s famed explorer onto the big screen for the first time began its box office journey at 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon, with families making up 55% of those ready to follow Dora onto her biggest escapade to date.

Analysts have predicted that the film starring Isabela Moner (INSTANT FAMILY, SICARIO: DAY OF THE SOLDADO) will earn $15-$17 million during its opening salvo, though obviously Walden Media and Media Rights Capital, who co-financed the film, are hoping for more.

In breaking down the film's Thursday attendance, turnout analytics show that 44% of attendees were Hispanic, while 39% were Caucasian, 7% Asian and 4% African American. Moms led the charge to the theater by 59%, with girls under the age of twelve outnumbering boys by 59% as well. With regard to older audience members, females under 25 served as 31% of those in attendance, while females over 25 made up $26%. Meanwhile, men under 25 repped 24%, with men over 25 making up 19% of the audience.

While DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD will no doubt win the family-oriented numbers this coming weekend, it's to be believed that Universal's HOBBS & SHAW will punch its way to the top of the box office charts with another $28-$30 million earned. There's also the debut of Guillermo Del Toro and André Øvredal's SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK to consider, which is expected to scare up $15-$17 million as well.

Here's the official synopsis for DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD:

Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeff Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

In addition to Isabela Moner, Dora's big screen adventure also stars Eugenio Derbez (GEOSTORM), ANT-MAN's Michael Pena, Benicio Del Toro (THE USUAL SUSPECTS), Eva Longoria (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES), Jeff Wahlberg (DON'T COME BACK FROM THE MOON), and Danny Trejo (MACHETE), among many others.

DORA AND THE LOST CITY OF GOLD is playing in theaters worldwide right now.
