Downton Abbey sequel release date shifts to late Spring 2022

I hope you don’t mind taking your tea later than anticipated because the Downton Abbey sequel is getting a new release date. Focus Features, Universal Pictures International, and Carnival Films have announced that the global release dates will shift to late spring for Downton Abbey: A New Era. The film, previously dated March 18, 2022, will now launch in theaters exclusively in the UK on April 29, 2022, and in the US on May 20, 2022.

The Downton Abbey sequel hails from award-winning creator Julian Fellowes and reunites the beloved cast as they go on a grand journey to the South of France to uncover the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ newly inherited villa. The original principal cast has returned for the second film along with new additions Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West. Fellowes wrote the screenplay, with Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning Gareth Neame and Emmy Award-winning LizTrubridge producing. Fellowes will also produce in addition to his other roles.

Downton Abbey proved to be a sizable hit when it was released back in 2019. Made for $13 million, Downton Abbey grossed $97 million domestically and $194.2 million worldwide. While Michael Engler helmed the first film, he has been replaced by Simon Curtis for the follow-up.

Are you excited to get fancy with the cast of Downton Abbey: A New Era? I’ve never seen Downton Abbey myself, though it’s been recommended to me several times. To be fair, I would totally check it out if I didn’t have a million other things on my watch list. Seriously, the amount of things I have yet to tune in for is out of control. Does anyone remember when television was something of a dead zone for entertainment? My how times have changed. Let us know if you’re down for the Downton Abbey sequel in the comments section below.
