Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist is back, baby!

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Oh my God, this is exciting news! DR. KATZ, PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST is coming back! Hell yeah!

If you don’t remember the show, it was a cartoon (utilizing SquiggleVision) that ran on Comedy Central from 1995-2005 that followed a balding, monotone doctor (the eponymous Dr. Katz, voiced by stand-up comedian Jonathan Katz) who talked to other comedians and celebrities about their problems. While it was always only a cult favorite, I grew up with and loved it as a kid. I remember it helped expose me to great upcoming comedians at the time, like Louis CK, Dave Chapelle, Marc Maron, and even more fringe comics like Emo Philips. It was also my first exposure to H. Jon Benjamin (ARCHER, BOB’S BURGERS), who played Katz’s loser son Ben.

Unfortunately, the return will not be animated, but instead will be an audio series. However,
everyone will return, including H. Jon Benjamin as the now middle-aged Ben still living with his father. Clients will include Sarah Silverman, Ted Danson, Ray Romano, Margaret Cho, Weird Al, Maria Bamford, Pete Holmes, Dana Gould, Emo Philips, Ron Funches, and Andy Kindler – which is a pretty impressive roster.

Now, I’m not going to lie, I’m going to miss the SquiggleVision and the cutaways to Dr. Katz falling asleep, not paying attention, or drawing sketches in his notebook. But that’s a small price to pay, in my opinion. I mean, it’s not like the animation was the main attraction anyway. I for one can’t wait!

So are there any other DR. KATZ, PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST fans out there? And if so, what do you think about the new audio series? Sound off below!

Meanwhile, DR. KATZ: THE AUDIO FILES will hit Audible Channels and Amazon Prime on June 8th.
