Warner Bros and Legendary Entertainment say Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two release date is moving up by two weeks!

Dune: Part Two, release date

We’ve got great news for Dune fans! Warner Bros says the spice will flow earlier than anticipated now that Dune: Part Two is moving up two weeks to March 1. Before the SAG-AFTRA strike ended, the highly-anticipated sequel pushed the film’s release to guarantee a massive marketing push for Denis Villeneuve’s sequel. With writers and actors returning to work, press tours include talent from the forthcoming science-fiction epic, from actors to crew members and beyond.

Dune: Part Two “will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” says the film’s official synopsis. “Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Denis Villeneuve directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts based on Frank Herbert’s novel. Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Villeneuve, Tanya Lapointe, and Patrick McCormick produce. The executive producers are Josh Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert, with Kevin J. Anderson as a creative consultant.

In August, Villeneuve confirmed to Empire there were words on paper” for Dune: Part Three. Villeneuve has teased the project before, intending to adapt the second book in Frank Herbert’s Dune series, “Dune Messiah.” “If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream… ‘Dune Messiah’ was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero…Which is not what he wanted to do. My adaptation [of Dune] is closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning.”

Are you excited about Dune: Part Two releasing two weeks early? Do you think Villeneuve will have a shot at completing his planned trilogy? With any luck, this is the final release date shift for Dune: Part Two, and fans can start making plans to experience the film in theaters near the start of March. Dune: Part Two is rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some suggestive material, and brief strong language. Let’s go!
