Want to revisit Arrakis before Paul Atreides returns to the big screen? Variety reports that Denis Villeneuve’s first two Dune movies are heading back to IMAX theatres next month, and the special event will give audiences an exclusive sneak peek at Dune: Part Three. The double feature is scheduled for November 13, 2026, with additional IMAX screenings of the individual films running from November 14 through November 18.
The theatrical return offers fans a chance to experience Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024) on the biggest possible screen ahead of the December release of the third film. For anyone who has been waiting to see Villeneuve complete his science fiction trilogy, this is an opportunity to catch up with the story in theatres and get an early look at what’s coming next.
Dune: Part Three Arrives in December
Dune: Part Three is scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 18, 2026. The film jumps ahead 20 years, with Timothée Chalamet returning as Paul Atreides, now an emperor who has conquered much of the known universe and faces new threats to his rule.
The returning cast includes Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Javier Bardem, and Anya Taylor-Joy, who appeared in a cameo in Dune: Part Two and now takes on the role of Paul’s younger sister, Alia Atreides.
New additions include Robert Pattinson as Scytale, a shape-shifting villain who seeks to overthrow Paul, along with Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides and Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides, the twin children of Paul and Chani.
The film is based on Frank Herbert’s science fiction universe.
The First Two Dune Movies Were Oscar and Box Office Hits
The decision to bring the first two movies back to IMAX makes sense given the success of Villeneuve’s adaptations. The original Dune earned 10 Academy Award nominations and won six Oscars, including awards for original score, sound, film editing, cinematography, production design, and visual effects. It also received nominations for Best Picture and Adapted Screenplay. Dune: Part Two followed with five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won two awards for sound and visual effects. The films were also major box office successes for Warner Bros. and Legendary, with the 2021 release earning approximately $411 million worldwide and its 2024 sequel reaching approximately $715 million.
