Mark and Jay Duplass are best known for their “Mumblecore” films. For those who don’t know, Mumblecore is a stripped down version of filmmaking, one that employs low-budget, hand-held aesthetics with naturalistic acting and storylines generally involving romantic tales of the young and unemployed. Movies for the hipster set, basically. The Duplass film THE PUFFY CHAIR ripped up Sundance a few years back, and guess what–the boys are off to Holllywood.
Their first mainstream film will star John C. Reilly, Marissa Tomei, and Jonah Hill. Not too shabby, eh? The film will revolve around a recently divorced man (Reilly) who meets the woman of his dreams (Tomei). She has a teenage son (Hill) who has no interest in sharing his mother with a new man. Based on the director’s previous efforts, this film has the potential to be kinda great. If you don’t believe me check out the mumblecorians (?) for yourself.
