At long last, Dwayne Johnson has announced a production start date for his long-gestating supehero film, BLACK ADAM.
While cruising the Twittersphere, the box office behemoth responded to a sculptor who painstakingly crafted a most-impressive piece that features Johnson as the iconic DC antihero, Black Adam. After thanking the artist, the Hobbs & Shaw superstar revealed that production on BLACK ADAM is slated to begin in July.

As Johnson's tweet confirms, the BLACK ADAM project has been in development for quite some time – since early 2000 to be exact. Recently it was announced that JUNGLE CRUISE helmer Jaume Collet-Serra will direct BLACK ADAM, a project that will see Collet-Serra and Johnson reuniting for yet another over-the-top adventure.
Created by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck, Black Adam first appeared in the pages of Marvel Family #1 (circa 1945). Originally introduced as a Shazam doppelganger, Black Adam's allegiances have ranged from Lawful Good to Chatoic Evil throughout his comic book career. Although the character did not appear in director David F. Sandberg's SHAZAM!, Black Adam did receive a nod thanks to a flahsback sequence. In the scene, it's hinted that Black Adam was the Council of Wizards' former champion, who was banished after an abuse of his power was viewed as an insult to those who'd granted him their unique abilities.
With production set to begin in the summer of 2020, I suspect that we'll be hearing about plot details and casting news sooner rather than later.
