Dwayne Johnson embraces his Samoan roots for a new Hobbs & Shaw image

* Sniff, sniff * Do you smell that? If I'm not mistaken, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is cooking up a new teaser image related to the Fast & Furious spinoff, FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS AND SHAW. In the photo, which the box office behemoth posted to his personal Instagram account earlier today, the Hollywood Hulk looks intimidating AF, as he's surrounded by a band of his Samoan brothers.

Alongside the photo, Johnson included the following message:

Here’s a lil’ exclusive from set of HOBBS & SHAW, our FAST & FURIOUS spin off film coming this summer.

For the upcoming and highly-anticipated spinoff, Johnson's US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs forms an unlikely alliance with Statham's Deckard Shaw. While details about the plot are still being kept under wraps at this time, we do know that Hobbs and Shaw will be going toe-to-toe with Brixton, a new villain to the Fast & Furious franchise as played by LUTHER alum and wishful thinking Bond actor, Idris Elba. Joining this triple threat for more pedal-to-the-metal mayhem are Eiza González (BABY DRIVER, ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL) and Vanessa Kirby (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT, THE CROWN), as Madam M and Hattie Shaw, respectively.

How or if Johnson's Samoan roots will play into the events of the upcoming film is unkown at this time. However, one this is for certain, I would not want to step to Hobbs after he's been particularly amped up by the spirit and energy of his people. I mean, you'd pretty much be asking for him to drive a fist down your throat faster than Dominic Toretto pushes his Dodge Charger Daytona across a finish line when a stack of bills is on the line.

FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS AND SHAW will race into theaters on August 2, 2019.
