In an interview with MTV, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson dropped some interesting tidbits about the upcoming sequels to the Fast and the Furious franchise, the most notable being that they are no longer pursuing a back-to-back 
shoot for FAST SIX and FAST SEVEN.
“I don’t think we’re going to shoot them back-to-back,” he said, “We were going to try that because it wouldn’t make sense to have the same crew and have everybody there in one place, but I think we’re dealing with some weather issues, so from what I know we’re going to shoot ‘Fast 6’ first and then worry about ‘Fast 7’ a little later.”
He also talked about the setting for the sequels:
“We’re going to be in the U.K., we’re going to be in Germany, from what I know. That’s the early talks,” he said. “And we’re going to start shooting in May.”
So, no back-to-back shooting, European locations, and a start date in May. Interesting. I’m relieved that they aren’t shooting the sequels back-to-back as it just feels like a recipe for disaster, not to mention overkill. Do we really need a Fast and the Furious movie every year?
Director Justin Lin, who helmed the last three films of the franchise, is back at it again. I think he’s really proven himself to be a deft action director and felt that FAST FIVE was absolutely the strongest of the series. I was particularly happy to see the film transition from car racing to heist action, which apparently is the direction the series will continue to head.
FAST SIX is likely to bow next year, but you can catch Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock in GI JOE: RETALLIATION on June 29, 2012.
Oh, and it would NOT suck if they brought back Elsa Pataky…
