It’s still summer here in Canada, but the new poster for Ti West‘s Ebenezer is making me think of the holidays. Quite frankly, I’m not ready. We get three fleeting weeks’ worth of what feels like autumn, my favorite season, and I’m not about to mentally rush through them for another version of Charles Dickens‘ A Christmas Carol. Give me Halloween or give me death. Still, I’m not going to lie, I am excited about Ebenezer, and today, we’ve got a new poster for the upcoming film that teases Johnny Depp’s look as Scrooge, the iconic miser with a deep and abiding hatred of all things Christmas. Bah humbug!
Scrooge has got a brand new bag
Coming to theaters on November 13, 2026, Ebenezer is a dark, supernatural re-imagining of Charles Dickens’ classic 1843 novella, starring Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge. The spooky holiday film marks Depp’s first major Hollywood studio lead role in several years. While most renditions of Dickens’ classic tale give audiences the warm fuzzies during bitter winter days, West’s Ebenezer is said to be a haunted, gothic, and chilling horror story about how Scrooge became the tortured soul we all know and love. Set against a menacing Victorian backdrop, Ebenezer sounds aggressively stylish and atmospheric, which makes me excited to experience this new take on a timeless tale.
The cast of Ebenezer is positively stacked
If the film’s description isn’t enough to pull you in, the star-studded cast will make you feel giddier than a street urchin shopping for the biggest Christmas goose money can buy. In addition to starring Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, the film features Sir Ian McKellen as Jacob Marley, Andrea Riseborough as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Tramell Tillman as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Daisy Ridley as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, Rupert Grint as Bob Cratchit, Sam Claflin as Fred (Ebenezer’s nephew), Charlie Murphy and Ellie Bamber as Mr. and Mrs. Isabel Fezziwig, and Arthur Conti playing a young Ebenezer.
Even if the poster is just a teaser, it’s a big sign that Ebenezer is on its way to theaters this Thanksgiving, and I’m genuinely excited to check it out. Will audiences welcome Johnny Depp back with open arms after so many years away from the spotlight? How scary is the movie going to be? What are the depths of Scrooge’s inner turmoil? We’ll find out when Ebenezer comes to theaters on November 13, 2026.
