Edgar Wright turns in script for steampunk Oliver Twist sequel Dodge & Twist

Dodge & Twist Edgar Wright Banner

Edgar Wright hasn't just been sitting around eating Cornettos since exiting Marvel's ANT-MAN. THE WORLD'S END director is gearing up for the music-filled heist movie BABY DRIVER, is attached to direct an adaption of the Andrew Smith YA novel "Grasshopper Jungle," and is working on a new project with Simon Pegg.

But that's not all, folks. It's being reported that Edgar Wright recently submitted the screenplay for a steampunk Oliver Twist movie sequel called DODGE & TWIST. Based on the Tony Lee novel of the same name (although it won't be a pure adaption, taking just the name and basic premise), the planned film is set twenty years after Oliver Twist and the Artful Dodger first met, and is a "steampunk reimagining" follow-up to the classic Charles Dickens book.

Cole Haddon (NBC's Dracula) and Simon Beaufoy (127 HOURS) both previously wrote drafts for producers Ahmet Zappa (THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN) and Matt Tolmach (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN), however Edgar Wright has done a complete rewrite. No cast, director or a start date have been announced, but maybe the project will get the green light based on the strength of Wright's script.

Even if the film doesn't get made (or another writer is brought in to polish/rework the screenplay), I would love to read Wright's DODGE & TWIST script. Tony Lee's book hasn't been released yet in paper form, but you can download it for your Kindle (as well as other electronic devices) through Amazon here.
