AMC is crafting a new documentary series with the intention of bringing viewers the histories of genres and storytellers. Each subject will be getting six one-hour episodes devoted to it, whether it's James Cameron examining the evolution of science fiction with AMC Visionaries: James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction, The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman telling the stories of comic book creators and characters with Robert Kirkman's Secret History of Comics, or The Roots and Alex Gibney telling the history of hip-hop with AMC Visionaries: Rap History.

Our beloved horror genre will also be getting its own documentary series, and for the horror doc AMC is teaming up with genre regular Eli Roth (CABIN FEVER, HOSTEL, THE GREEN INFERNO.)

Roth is executive producing the documentary, which currently has the working title of AMC Visionaries: Eli Roth's History of Horror. Its six episodes are expected to air on AMC in 2018.

Roth had this to say about the project:

I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible series. For years, I’ve wanted to create a definitive ‘History of Horror,’ a living record of the genre with interviews from all the greats, old and new. Sadly, we lose more of these masters every year and with them go their stories and experiences. This show will serve as a record for future generations — fans and filmmakers alike — to enjoy. I could not be prouder to create this with AMC."

I know Roth is a divisive figure in the genre, but this documentary sounds like a noble endeavor and I look forward to seeing how it's going to bring the history of horror to the screen.
