NANCY DREW didn’t exactly light up the box-office as I’m sure was hoped by Warner Bros. but that isn’t slowing down star Emma Roberts. Julia’s niece has already agreed to a NANCY sequel and will now star in the DreamWorks family comedy HOTEL FOR DOGS. In the film Roberts will play a teen living with her aunt who saves stray dogs and houses them in an abandoned house down the street. I imagine there will be a Walter Peck like villain from the Animal Control agency looking to tear down the house and take the dogs. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Lois Duncan that the studio optioned in 2005. Former animator Thor Freudenthal recently signed to direct replacing Harald Zwart (AGENT CODY BANKS) who dropped out to direct PINK PANTHER 2. Roberts is currently filming WILD CHILD for Universal and would start work on DOGS before taking on the NANCY sequel.
