True Detective's Cary Fukunaga has another television project in the works. The BEASTS OF NO NATION filmmaker is already planning on doing a small screen take on the Caleb Carr novel The Alienist, and now Deadline is reporting that Fukunaga will helm Maniac, a dark comedy series based on the 2014 Norwegian series.

Emma Stone and Jonah Hill have been set to star in the series, which will follow "a guy who lives a fantasy life in his dreams but in reality is locked up at an institution." Stone and Hill will play patients in the institution, and both actors will also executive produce the half-hour show with Fukunaga and Anonymous Content’s Michael Sugar and Doug Wald.

The site has heard that the project will be seeking a straight-to-series order, and that it will probably run for two seasons, with Fukunaga directing every episode. Paramount TV and Anonymous Content are currently shopping the planned series, and a search is underway for a writer.

Stone can be seen next on the big screen starring opposite Ryan Gosling in Damien Chazelle's LA LA LAND on December 16, 2016, while Hill has several films opening this year, including the R-rated animated comedy SAUSAGE PARTY from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and David Frankel's COLLATERAL BEAUTY.
