Pop quiz – what’s Netflix’s most successful film franchise? By a wide margin, it’s probably Enola Holmes, with the third film in the series due to hit the streamer this summer. Adolescence director Philip Barantini directs the film from a script by Jack Thorne, who also penned the limited series, as well as all the Enola Holmes films to date. They are based on the Enola Holmes Mysteries book series by Nancy Springer. Millie Bobby Brown returns in the titular role. In addition to Millie Bobby Brown reprising Enola Holmes, Louis Partridge returning as friend and love interest Tekesbury and Henry Cavill reprising older brother and famed detective Sherlock Holmes, Enola Holmes 3 will also mark the returns of Himesh Patel as Dr. John Watson (after a quick appearance in Enola Holmes 2), Helena Bonham Carter as matriarch Eudoria, and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as the villainous Moriarty (having been introduced as “Mira Troy” in the previous movie).
Executive producers include Joshua Grode, Jake Bongiovi and Isobel Richards. Mary Parent, Alex Garcia, Ali Mendes, Millie Bobby Brown, Robert Brown, Michael Dreyer and Jack Thorne are all on board as producers.
Brown stated to Netflix, “Working with Louis [Partridge] has been such a huge part of what makes these films feel special. There’s a comfort and an ease between us now that you can’t really fake and it just comes from years of working together and supporting each other. What’s been really nice is getting to explore a more mature version of Enola and Tewkesbury’s relationship. It’s not just playful anymore, it has real weight to it. We trust each other a lot, which means we can take more risks and really lean into the emotional side of their story.”
Enola Holmes 3 starts streaming on Netflix on July 1.
