Escape Room 2 release moves forward to summer 2021

Just three months after Sony/Screen Gems announced that they were pushing the sequel to director Adam Robitel's 2019 horror-thriller Escape Room (watch it HERE) all the way back to a January 2022 release, the studio has had second thoughts and announced a different release date for Escape Room 2 – one which is just three months away.

Escape Room 2 is now scheduled to reach theatres on July 16, 2021.

This is the fifth release date for the film. It was originally supposed to come out on April 17, 2020, then got pushed to August 24, 2020, then moved back to December 30, 2020. Then came the jump to 2022.

An official synopsis for this sequel has never been released, but the first movie started when 

an intriguing invitation brings six strangers together. Initially, they think they have gathered for a highly immersive escape room, but they soon make the sickening discovery that they are pawns in a sadistic game of life and death. Together, they move from one terrifying scenario to the next as they find clues and solve puzzles. But the players soon learn that exposing their darkest secrets may hold the key to survive.

Robitel returned to direct Escape Room 2, working from a screenplay by Will Honley, Maria Melnik, and Daniel Tuch. Honley also earned story credit with Christine Lavaf and Fritz Bohm. The film stars Taylor Russell, Logan Miller, Indya Moore, Holland Roden, Isabelle Fuhrman, Carlito Olivero, Thomas Cocquerel, and James Frain.

Escape Room 2 was produced by Neal H. Moritz. Robitel served as executive producer alongside Karina Rahardja and Philip Waley.
