Ex. Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes and Susanne Bier talk horror & Bird Box

In the new Netflix feature BIRD BOX, Sandra Bullock and Trevante Rhodes face off against a deadly entity, one that drives innocent people to their death. It is a strange and atmospheric thriller/horror film directed by Susanne Bier, and it also features a talented group of actors including John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, Jacki Weaver, Rosa Salazar and more. The film is dark, and sometimes quite brutal, as it examines a modern – and situationally developed – family unit that must face their deepest fears on a search for sanctuary.

We recently had the pleasure of speaking to the film’s stars Bullock and Rhodes, as well as the director, Bier. For the two actors, it was the modern approach to family that really drew them to the project. While it is certainly unusual for Ms. Bullock to take on something that is genre, she seemed to embrace the horror and taking on this layered character. They also discussed creating a family unit and how well it represents today's society. Bier added to this very subject, and how she wanted to examine the relationship between the two leads as well as the terror that is constantly present. The director opened up about crafting BIRD BOX into a horror/thriller, all while creating a strong and personal role for Ms. Bullock.

BIRD BOX is currently in limited theatrical engagements in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and London. The film will be released on Netflix this Friday.
