Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes his directorial debut with DON JON, a romantic comedy about a New Jersey womanizer addicted to porn. Perhaps not exactly what we’d expect from the actor’s first foray behind the camera, but obviously Gordon-Levitt has a decent head-start on his new career; having recently worked with such A-list helmers as Steven Spielberg, Christopher Nolan and Rian Johnson, Gordon-Levitt has had some of the best teachers in the world.

For his leading lady, the burgeoning director has chosen Scarlett Johansson, forming one of the most attractive on-screen couples in recent memory. I had the very fortunate chance to sit down with both talented performers and talk about DON JON’s crude characters, the art of perfecting a New Jersey accent and which of Gordon-Levitt’s many splendid directors helped him out the most.
