Explore a post-apocalyptic world in new clips from Mortal Engines

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Peter Jackson may not have directed MORTAL ENGINES himself (that would be Christian Rivers), but the various trailers and clips have shown that his fingerprints are all over the post-apocalyptic world. Jackson co-wrote the script along with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens based upon the novel of the same name by Philip Reeve. MORTAL ENGINES takes place thousands of years after civilization as we know it was destroyed in a cataclysmic event, and the remnants of humanity have since adapted a new way of life: living in giant moving cities which now roam the Earth. With the film set to debut in North America next week, Universal Pictures have released three new clips which gives us a glimpse at the VFX-fueled adventures we have in store. You can find two more clips below for your viewing pleasure.

Unfortunately, reviews for MORTAL ENGINES have been somewhat mixed so far. Although many critics have praised the spectacular eye-candy on display, they've also noted that not much room was left over for fleshing out characters or successfully landing emotional beats. Doesn't exactly bode well for a potential sequel, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see how the film performs at the box-office.

The official synopsis for MORTAL ENGINES:

Thousands of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, humankind has adapted and a new way of living has evolved.  Gigantic moving cities now roam the Earth, ruthlessly preying upon smaller traction towns.  Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan)—who hails from a Lower Tier of the great traction city of London—finds himself fighting for his own survival after he encounters the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar).  Two opposites, whose paths should never have crossed, forge an unlikely alliance that is destined to change the course of the future.

MORTAL ENGINES will hit theaters on December 14, 2018.
