UPDATED: Explosive first trailer for Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace

UPDATED: A proper HD trailer has been embedded for your enjoyment.  Take a gander!

The first trailer for DEAD MAN DOWN, the gritty actioner starring Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Terrence Howard, Dominic Cooper, and Armand Assante has snuck online after a marketing delay due to the tragic events in Connecticut on December 14th.  It was the respectful thing to do at the time and I give kudos to Film District for that.

The pic is directed by Niels Arden Oplev who helmed the Swedish version of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and seems to have that same dark, tense feeling, albeit now without subtitles.  Farrell has gotten a bum shake with his stop-and-go action career, especially with this past summer’s abysmal TOTAL RECALL remake, but I’m glad to see him still going for it.  DEAD MAN DOWN looks promising, slick, and hopefully as tough as THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. Definitely on my radar after this. The trailer is in lower-res, but we’ll update as soon as a more presentable HD one is available.

Get “Down”:

Here’s the synopsis:

Following the cinematic phenomenon “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” acclaimed filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev and brooding beauty Noomi Rapace reunite for another thrilling tale of vengeance. Colin Farrell joins the prestigious team as brave enforcer Victor, right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City. He seeks to avenge the death of his wife and daughter caused by his boss. When his employer is threatened by a mysterious killer, Victor also becomes detective. Victor is seduced and blackmailed by Beatrice (Noomi Rapace), a victim turned avenger whose intense chemistry leads them spiraling into payback delivered in violent catharsis. From producer Neal Moritz (The Fast and the Furious franchise, I Am Legend) and Joel Wyman (Fringe, Keen Eddie) comes a triumphant action thriller, a powerful portrait of the relationship between two people caught in the crosshairs of revenge.

DEAD MAN DOWN gets to work on March 8, 2013.
