Fans of intense action films rejoice! After ironing out the details, Deadline says Chris Hemsworth has negotiated a deal to return as Tyler Rake for Extraction 3. The next chapter of the hit Netflix and AGBO action thriller finds Sam Hargrave returning to direct, with Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani reprising their roles as Alcott and Nik Khan, respectively, for the anticipated sequel—production fires from the hip this summer, with David Weil penning the screenplay.

People love the Extraction franchise

Plot details for Extraction 3 remain in the shadows, but we can expect Rake and his team to once again go behind enemy lines for another in-your-face extraction mission. When Extraction debuted on Netflix in 2020, the film rose to the top of the Popular English Films list, with audiences marveling at Chris Hemsworth’s dedication to delivering a visceral action experience with plenty of bullets to chew and necks to snap. The film became so popular that Extraction earned two Critics’ Choice nominations, Best Action Movie and Best Actor in an Action Movie for Hemsworth.

Because Extraction comes from AGBO, Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa will produce, with Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson producing through Wild State alongside Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin. It’s been a few years since Extraction 2 premiered on Netflix, but after completing work on Crime 101, Hemsworth finally got his paws on the Extraction 3 script and is eager to return to the franchise.

Elba teases his character’s return to the Extraction franchise

The Extraction films take inspiration from the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo & Anthony Russo, with illustrations by Fernando Leon Gonzalez. Two years ago, Elba teased his character could return in another Extraction sequel, telling Collider, “I know that we have some unfinished business fromExtraction 2. It hasn’t been made official yet, but I’m pretty sure it will.”

Well, the time has come for Netflix to officially announce Elba’s return to the Extraction franchise, which is what today’s news is all about. The Extraction movies are some of the action genre’s most hard-hitting features in recent years, with Hemsworth going above and beyond to showcase his hand-to-hand combat skills and ability to fight his way through extensive takes. We’re extremely excited to hear that Extraction 3 is officially happening, and we’ll bring you more details about the film as they become available.
