Fans rally to help Battlestar Galactica’s Michael Hogan after serious fall

Fans are rallying behind Battlestar Galactica's Michael Hogan after he suffered a tragic accident. The veteran actor, who played Colonel Saul Tigh on the show,  fell and hit his head during dinner back in February which resulted in a traumatic head injury that led to a massive brain bleed.

The accident required emergency surgery and the event sadly left him with complete paralysis on his left side, as well as memory loss, cognitive impairment, and an inability to swallow. Due to his injuries, it's likely that Hogan will not be able to work again but his fans have made moves in a big way to help the actor contributing to a GoFundMe campaign that was started by his family and friends. As of this writing, the page has raised $113,321 of its $150,000 goal.

Not helping matters is the COVID-19 pandemic, which has made an already difficult situation even more difficult. Hogan’s access to his family and a proper care team remains limited due to the pandemic and this summer, Hogan was moved into The Berkley Care Centre in North Vancouver, where he has been seeing a physiotherapist several times a week. Even though he still can’t stand on his own and requires a feeding tube, he has regained his speech and is largely coherent and cognizant, but his family says he still has a long, hard road ahead of him.

The financial demands for someone in Hogan's condition are considerable. The actor's wife, Susan Hogan, has had to stop working herself so she can take care of her husband and arrange his medical care. His wife would prefer to have Michael home with her once he’s able to leave his current Long Term Care facility, but that means installing wheelchair ramps, a hospital bed, and buying a vehicle that can accommodate the wheelchair, among numerous other medical services. All of this will cost a considerable amount of money and this is why the family needs all the help they can get.

Hogan has been a working actor since the late ’70s and appeared in the first two episodes of the series Monk before finding fame on Battlestar, which led to recurring roles on Teen Wolf, 12 Monkeys, and The Man in the High Castle. He also played Slade Wilson in two episodes of Smallville and Otto Gerhardt on the acclaimed second season of Fargo. Hogan also has feature film credits to his name include THE PEANUT BUTTER SOLUTION, THE CUTTING EDGE, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILLand RED RIDING HOOD. He most recently played the Air Force Chief of Staff in the live-action SONIC THE HEDGEHOG movie.

This is no doubt a tight time for all of us. The pandemic has left many people out of work and funds for some have been scarce but if you can even contribute a few bucks, it would go a long way to helping Hogan and his family out. If you can't make a monetary donation, please share this story on your social media and try to get the word out. I'm sure any kind of help that brings awareness to his story will mean a lot to the family. Get well soon Michael! You can head to the GoFundMe page by going HERE!
