Fast Forever: Universal puts the pedal to the metal for the next Fast & Furious movie with a 2028 release date

If you thought Universal‘s Fast & Furious franchise was out of gas, think again. According to Vin Diesel, the next installment of the long-running action franchise, titled Fast Forever, is racing into theaters on March 17, 2028.

Vin Diesel shared the news about Fast Forever on his personal Instagram account, posting a photo of himself with the late Paul Walker in the original The Fast and the Furious film. “No one said the road would be easy… but it’s ours,” Diesel captioned the post. “One that has defined us and become our legacy… And a legacy… lasts forever.”

Who’s coming back for Fast Forever so far?

We know little about Fast Forever, though the sequel will be a powerhouse of Hollywood heavy-hitters with Dwayne Johnson (Luke Hobbs), Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw), Jason Momoa (Dante Reyes), Jordana Brewster (Mia Torretto), and Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz) returning to the franchise, alongside others in Dominic Toretto’s crew. Diesel confirmed at FuelFest over the summer that Brian O’Connor, played initially by Paul Walker, would return to the franchise. Previously, Paul Walker’s brothers, Cody Walker and Caleb Walker, helped complete filming for Furious 7, with Cody stepping in as his body double and Caleb assisting with facial capture. It remains unclear if Fast Forever will feature the same setup.

Where will Fast Forever continue the story?

It will be five years since Fast X, the latest installment of the Fast franchise, pulled into theaters, when Fast Forever comes out. Fast X earned $704 million worldwide, proving that audiences still have an appetite for the franchise’s over-the-top action and unwaivering family values.

Fast X ended on a crazy cliffhanger, so we expect to get some resolution when Fast Forever comes to cinemas in 2028. My question is: What will they do about Dominic’s son, Brian (Leo Abelo Perry), in the sequel? Perry is likely several feet taller than he was in Fast X, and has likely undergone… changes. Will Fast Forever pick up where Fast X left off, or will they keep Perry in the cast and start the film with a time jump? We won’t know until we learn more about the cast, and that feels like months away as Fast Forever enters production. What do you want from the next (and possibly final) Fast & Furious film?
