First images of Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart in Get Hard

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

If there are two actors in Hollywood that divide audiences more than Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, I am not sure if I can think of any. Put the two of them in the same movie and you are bound to get some very positive and negative responses from audiences. So, for those of you ready to say something negative, I give you the first images from GET HARD.

In the film, Ferrell plays James King, the head of a Ponzi scheme that gets him sentenced to jail time. When the judge decides to send him to maximum security San Quentin instead of a low security country club, King decides he needs help. Mistaking his car washer Darnell (Hart) for a hardened criminal and pays him a lot of money to help him GET HARD. Hijinks, undoubtedly, ensue.

Darnell immediately implements a training plan, starting with a surprise pepper spray attack “to make sure I always have my guard up,” says Ferrell. King’s tennis court is transformed into a “yard” where King can work out and play out prison scenarios. When those flop, Darnell tries to get King involved with a Los Angeles gang for inside protection (leading to King wearing ridiculous street apparel).

Now, even the worst Will Ferrell comedy has some moments worth laughing in and Kevin Hart is able to elicit a few chuckles from the most jaded viewer, but something about GET HARD just seems forced. Even the image of Will Ferrell in his “ghetto” attire feels like it should have been in a movie twenty years ago. First time director Etan Cohen has co-written films like IDIOCRACY and TROPIC THUNDER, so hopefully he is able to do something worthwhile with GET HARD.

GET HARD also stars Alison Brie, Craig T. Nelson, Gary Owen and Jay Pharoah. It opens in theaters on March 27, 2015.
