Pixar might be cranking out golden movie eggs like a CGI goose, but they have another unique role in the industry, as they precede all their films with a very creative short film. It’s a few extra minutes which has netted them additional Oscars in the past.
We’ve seen One Man Band, Presto, Day and Night and now we have our first look at their next short project, La Luna, seen above.
But the short isn’t premiering in front of a new film, rather it’s showing at the Annecy Animation Festival this June. It’s directed by Enrico Casarosa, a Pixar artist and story man who has worked on CARS, RATATOUILLE and UP. Here’s a description below:
La Luna is the timeless fable of a young boy who is coming of age in the most peculiar of circumstances. Tonight is the very first time his Papa and Grandpa are taking him to work. In an old wooden boat they row far out to sea, and with no land in sight, they stop and wait. A big surprise awaits the little boy as he discovers his family’s most unusual line of work. Should he follow the example of his Papa, or his Grandpa? Will he be able to find his own way in the midst of their conflicting opinions and timeworn traditions?
Typical Pixar plotline that sounds odd, but will assuredly be magical onscreen. Look for La Luna in June, or perhaps Pixar may attach it to some future project.
