We’ve been keeping you abreast of Shawn Levy’s mechanical pugilism picture REAL STEEL since it was announced last November that Hugh Jackman had signed on to play the lead. Seven months later…we finally have the first look at the film. Below, of course!

That’s right y’all! It appears DreamWorks just issued the very first on-set stills from Levy’s latest, which borrows inspiration from Richard Matheson’s short story. The pics don’t offer a ton of exciting imagery, but at least you we can get an idea of what the robots in the film will resemble. Strangely enough, they’re not too far from what I’ve had in my mind over the course of half a year covering the damn thing (which I attribute to a cartoon image we’ve posted prior, HERE).

Also starring Evangeline Lilly (below), Anthony Mackie, Dakota Goyo, Hope Davis, Kevin Durand, James Rebhorn and Olga Fonda – REAL STEEL is a future-set story where robot boxing is a popular sport and centered on a struggling promoter (Jackman) who thinks he’s found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he also discovers he has an 11-year-old son (Goyo) who wants to know his father. Word is Mackie is set to play a fellow boxing promoter, while Lilly’s will play a longtime friend to Jackman’s character.

REAL STEEL enters the ring November 18th, 2011.
