Well, at long last, here's our first official look at what the JUMANJI sequel has in store for us, via The Rock's Instagram:
So, whoof, a lot to unpack with this. On the one hand The Rock as some sort of INDIANA JONES-style adventurer? Sign me the f*ck up! On the other hand what I really liked about the first one was that it pitted ostensibly normal people against extraordinary circumstances. The Rock up there looks like he punches lions in the face and eats poisonous flowers for lunch.
But don't we want different tones for sequels? One of arguable the best sequels ever was ALIENS, which pitted gun-toting badass soldiers against the xenomorphs while the first one was heralded for how lived in and normal the blue-collar space trucker protagonists were. So this could be the right approach. And, if nothing else, The Rock is always fun and has charisma to spare.
JUMANJI comes out July 28th, 2017 and co-stars Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Nick Jonas, and Karen Gillan. Directed by Jake Kasdan (director of…SEX TAPE)?
