First Look: Bill Skarsgard & Maika Monroe in Villains

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

This year's SXSW Film Festival will be taking place in Austin, Texas this March and today we have your first look at Bill Skarsgard (IT: CHAPTER TWO) and Maika Monroe (IT FOLLOWS) in directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen's comedy-crime-thriller VILLAINS co-starring Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffrey Donovan. The movie is all set to host it's World Premiere at this year's festival and you can snag tickets to the show in the link below. You can check out the first look image above and a full version below.

Here's the synopsis:

Mickey and Jules are lovers on the run, headed southbound for a fresh start in the Sunshine State. When their car dies after a gas station robbery, they break into a nearby house looking for a new set of wheels. What they find instead is a dark secret and a sweet-as-pie pair of homeowners who will do anything to keep it from getting out.

I'm more than a little interested in checking this movie out if only for the cast. As a horror fan, combining the talents behind such recent neo-classics as STEPHEN KING'S IT and IT FOLLOWS sounds like the recipe for something special. Add in solid thespians like Kyra Sedgwick (THE WOODSMAN, THE POSSESSION), and Jeffrey Donovan (BURN NOTICE, BLAIR WITCH 2: BOOK OF SHADOWS) and I'm already buying my tickets tonight.

The comedy-crime-thriller is directed by Dan Berk and Robert Olsen from a screenplay they wrote together. Trevor White, Tim White, Garrick Dion, and Allan Mandelbaum produced and Aaron Gilbert, Kevin Turen, Chadd Harbold, and Per Melita served as the movie's executive producers.

Bill Skarsgard, Maika Monroe, Kyra Sedgwick, and Jeffrey Donovan star.

Other genre efforts set to premiere at this year's SXSW Film Festival include horror TV offerings like AMC's adaptation of Joe Hill's NOS4A2, and WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS. Along with, of course, GET OUT writer-director Jordan Peele's new horror movie US, which is set to be the festival's opening night movie. This year's SXSW Film Festival will be taking place in Austin, Texas March 8–17, 2019.
