M. Night Shyamalan shocked moviegoers with one of his best twist endings yet at the end of SPLIT when he revealed that the film takes place within the same universe as his 2000 smash hit UNBREAKABLE. For many, it was the type of ending that reminded fans of just how clever Shyamalan can be, and thus faith was restored in his ability to delight and surprise those looking for a hell of a good time at the theater. Now the “what a twist” filmmaker is preparing for the roll-out of GLASS, a film starring James McAvoy‘s unpredictable Kevin Wendell Crumb, Samuel L. Jackson‘s Elijah Price aka Mr. Glass, and Bruce Willis‘ unbreakable David Dunn. Their coming together promises to be a fascinating meeting of the minds to say the least, as each personality looks to challenge the other in new and unpredictable ways.
Today, Entertainment Weekly has debuted a series of First Look images for GLASS, which give us a look at the film’s characters both on and off the set of the new film. You can check them out for yourself below:
As a part of the reveal, EW also confirmed that we’ll be spending some time with Crumb’s other personalities throughout the new movie.
“We get to spend some time with some new people that live inside Kevin,” McAvoy said. It was also noted that a few familiar faces will be returning to the franchise as well, such as Charlayne Woodard, who played Elijah’s mom, and Spencer Treat Clark, who played David’s son in UNBREAKABLE. “[They] play a big role,” Shyamalan teased to EW.
Shyamalan also provided some insight with regard to Sarah Paulson‘s character, who the filmmaker says “deals with people who think they’re comic book characters.” He then added, “It’s kind of the modern-day equivalent of ‘I think I’m Jesus’ or ‘I’m an emperor.’”

From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast.
Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
This riveting culmination of his worldwide blockbusters will be produced by Shyamalan and Jason Blum, who also produced the writer/director’s previous two films for Universal. They produce again with Ashwin Rajan and Marc Bienstock, and Steven Schneider, who will executive produce.
