First O. Russell, now Natalie Portman off Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?

Talk about taking a turn for the worse…

Pressed-to-the-ass of a news brief we brought you Tuesday about David O. Russell, as a result of Natalie Portman not being able to meet his intended start date, dropping PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES like a bad f*ckin habit. Two days later, Natalie Portman has withdrawn her name as well. Sort of…

EW says Portman will not star in the film anymore, but will remain onboard as producer. A calculated move, considering how popular Seth Grahme-Smith’s novel is. Now she can worry about how best to creatively adapt the property, instead of worrying about the hands in which her starring performance may ultimately be shaped. Good move Natty, we’re with ya!

Portman, fresh off what sounds to be a spellbinding turn in BLACK SWAN, recently spurned the Alfonso Cuaron sci-fi thriller GRAVITY. She’s already wrapped YOUR HIGHNESS, and has NO STRINGS and THOR currently in post-production. Time to choose her next role, ay? Hopefully it’s not the long-gestating SUSPIRIA remake.

What do you make of all this PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES shuffling as of late? If not Portman and O. Russell, who’s your top choice for director and female lead?
